Effective Date 3/05/2012
1.0 SUBJECTS: Notice of intent to discontinue providing Netflow information to agency customers
2.0 DISTRIBUTION: SRS and KDOT Scrutinizer Product Users
3.0 FROM: Anthony Schlinsog, Chief information Technology Officer
4.0 PURPOSE: To notify OITS customers of our intent to discontinue to provide Netflow information that is currently provided to some customers.
5.0 BACKGROUND: This memorandum is to notify agencies that OITS will discontinue providing real-time network Netflow data to the agencies utilizing a stand-alone Scrutinizer product. This situation is the result of the replacement of the legacy carrier provided Wide-Area Network (WAN) and Metro-Area Network (MAN) networks. In these new environments network management traffic will be isolated within a network management vrf that is not accessible from the public routing table. This change is being done to accommodate the newer technologies provided by the carriers. In addition, we believe that this design also has added benefit in that this configuration enhances both the performance and security posture for the KANWIN Network.
Currently we are exploring the possibility of providing agencies with real-time Netflow information via a common OITS managed (Scrutinizer) console. However, we have just started to research this service and the acquisition of the resources required to provide this information have not been budgeted.
6.0 PROCEDURE: Agencies will be able to continue to request adhoc Scrutinizer reports to diagnose network and performance problems at individual agency locations. Agencies requesting this information should make these requests by opening a Trouble Ticket through the OITS Network Operations Center (NOC). They can be contacted at 785-296-2310. These reports should be available within 24 hours of the request. Due to resource constraints we cannot accept standing requests for periodic (daily/weekly) reports at this time.
